Lofts on a rooftop

WORK TYPE : BUILDING EXTENSION
Location : Toulouse, France
Year : 2012
COLLABORATION : PATRICK BOUSSIER

The project is located in the historic centre of Toulouse. This old town imposes restrictive urban constraints to any new project especially for the choice of materials and the construction heights. While respecting this constraints, the project has two targets : reintegrate this contrasting 80’s style building in its urban context and use its rooftop to create two apartments with private garden.

VOLUMETRY

Located on a street angle, the building is imposing and visible from several points of view. By creating a top crown, the volume will become more discreet and harmonious.

BEFORE / AFTER

Originally with a flat roof, the simple fact to build an additional level and “put an end” by creating a sloping roof, reintegrate the building in the urban landscape.

STREET VIEW

On the street side, we created loggias and used grey bricks to remind the facade style of the area while giving a touch of modernity. The timber blinds act as a filter, providing at the same time privacy and opening.
